BAVARIA YACHTS supports young boatbuilding trainees in Lübeck
A donation of sails for the state vocational school for boat builders

With a generous donation of a new set of sails, Bavaria Yachts from Giebelstadt is supporting the training of boat builders at the state vocational school for boat builders in Lübeck-Travemünde. The school, which is attended by students from almost all over Germany, benefits enormously from the support of the renowned Bavarian company. The donated sail set, which consists of a headsail, a mainsail and a light wind headsail, will be used to renew the equipment of the school's own 36-foot sailing yacht ‘ApprenticeShip’. This yacht, which was also donated by Bavaria Yachts many years ago, plays an important role in practical training at the vocational school.
‘We are very pleased about the renewed support from Bavaria Yachts,’ says Werner Feyerabend, deputy headmaster of the vocational school. ‘Thanks to the support and donations in kind, such as these from Bavaria Yachts, we can ensure that our students are well prepared for the demands of the world of work.’
Marcus Schlichting, Marketing and PR at Bavaria Yachts, also emphasises the importance of promoting young talent: ‘It is important to us to get young people interested in boatbuilding and to give them the opportunity to complete a qualified apprenticeship. The state vocational school in Lübeck-Travemünde does outstanding work in this area and we are proud to be able to support it.’
The donation from Bavaria Yachts once again emphasises the close ties between the boatbuilding vocational school and the industry's trade associations, guilds and training companies. ‘Cooperation with the industry is very important to us,’ says Christian Garleff, head of the maritime department at the vocational school. ‘The new sails will give our students the opportunity to practise in a modern environment and improve their practical seamanship skills.’
The state vocational school for boat builders in Lübeck-Travemünde is the only open vocational school for prospective boat builders in Germany. The school is attended by trainees from all over Germany and offers comprehensive training in all areas of boatbuilding, from design to electrical engineering and engine technology.

Master sailmaker Volker Martel, Elvstrøm partner in Lübeck-Travemünde and for 25 years on the Priwall, finalised and delivered the sails.
