What is the internship programme at BAVARIA YACHTS like?

Many people, young and old alike, are fascinated by our products and the shipyard – so for many, the question arises: why not combine your passion with your career? With an apprenticeship at BAVARIA as a boat builder or industrial management assistant, this dream can come true!

We asked our apprentices what the training programme at BAVARIA involves and what makes working in a shipyard so special. We hope you enjoy reading their answers.

Getting started

BAVARIA currently has four trainees learning boat building and one trainee learning industrial business management.

First, the new trainees get to know the shipyard and all the departments. This includes an initial orientation, work clothes and safety training.

Then the boat builders move on to the training workshop. Here they are equipped with tools and begin their first work with wood and metal. Getting to know the hand tools and materials used in boat building is very important in order to get a better idea of the tasks that lie ahead. They are guided by our trainer, who already accompanied trainees since 2012.

Two of our boatbuilding apprentices are currently in their second year of training. In this stage of the training programme, the learning module consists of a project, such as the construction of small boats up to 4 metres in length.

Varied tasks are fun

During their training as boat builders, the trainees pass through the mould making and electrical engineering stages, learn about hull construction and gas and water installation. Their daily tasks during the training mainly include working on the production line and learning the ropes – from processing wood to laying pipes and cables.

Having a different task every day brings variety. The trainees report that it is exciting to do something new every day and that you never stop learning.

Training as an industrial management assistant

The training of industrial business clerks, on the other hand, takes place in the departments in the shipyard's administration building. Every two to four months, our current trainee Maya changes departments so that she can work in all areas and get to know all internal processes.

These include human resources, logistics, production planning, purchasing, controlling and customer service. Her current department is marketing. Here she is learning how to edit images and videos, writes blog posts and was even allowed to accompany BAVARIA to ‘boot 26’ in Düsseldorf. Other creative projects such as the BAVARIA Advent calendar on social media were also part of her responsibilities.

Next up is customer service.

But why should you do your industrial clerk training at BAVARIA YACHTS?

For our trainee, it's clear: ‘Out of passion! If you're fascinated by the sea, boats and therefore the product itself, this is the place for you!’ Walking past the production line every day and being able to follow all the administrative steps is not only exciting, but also gives you an overview of how all the operational processes fit together. From order planning and procurement to invoicing and personnel planning. At the end of it all is a luxury product that inspires many people.

Finally, our trainees would like to add: ‘Pursue or learn your profession out of passion and because you feel comfortable with it and identify with it. Then a simple interest will turn into a profession and a job that brings fun and joy every day!’
